Casting shots

One of the key elements of getting you noticed by agents or casting directors is a good natural headshot. Your headshot must look like you at your best. Whether you are an actor looking for work in theatres, commercial or TV or perhaps just starting out as a model, don't underestimate the importance of getting a professional headshot produced to find you work.

Here are some simple tips to help you look your best:

Get plenty of sleep the night before.  Whilst I can photoshop and edit photos, being tired or hung over will have an effect on how you look the next day. Avoid alcohol the day before and drink plenty of water and moisturise your face a couple of days before the shoot. On the day, wear only very light make up to achieve the natural look.

Wear plain clothes.  Avoid stripes or busy patterns that draw attention away from your face and eyes. Creams and dark blues colours are better than black or white. Always bring a selection of clothes on the day to provide a good choice to complement your backdrop.

Your eyes are the most important feature for your headshot.  A variety of looks from strong to vulnerable can all be achieved depending on your thoughts and how you feel in the moment. It's always useful to project a thought and feel an emotion to help me capture the moment.

Good lighting.  Your eyes must be well lit and in focus. Natural light is best and diffused natural light such as the sun coming through the clouds gives better results.
